What We Ate at Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney

Here’s a recap of everything we ate on our Disney trip – Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney.

Day Before Disney Day

We stopped by Bopomofo Cafe after landing in California. We ordered drinks and food. Afterwards, we made our way to Newport Beach. Once we had some fun in the water and sand, we explored Downtown Disney, which is where we dined at Jazz Kitchen.

I ordered the Blue Crab Caprese Salad. Shiina ordered the Grilled New York Steak Chimchurri and Valkyrie ordered the Crispy Chicken Tenders with Fries. I wasn’t impressed with the salad. It was three slices of mozzarella cheese, pesto, tomatoes and a sprinkle of crab. I also didn’t like the dish that Shiina’s steak was prepared in. It made cutting the steak difficult as it wasn’t a flat dish. The best parts of our meal would be the broccolini and fries.

Not to mention, I felt that our service was rushed and we were hardly given any attention. Our waiter would walk by, saying, “I’ll be right with you,” but wasn’t looking at us… So was he talking to us? Then he’d say that again, and again, while he walked from other tables to what seemed like the check-out table. This was before we ordered. He finally stopped by our table and as we ordered, again he didn’t seem to be looking at us, as if his focus was elsewhere.

Once we finished our meal, a different waiter asked if we needed a box… even though our original waiter was standing by the “check-out table” where the boxes were located. Then our original waiter walked over with a dessert menu, asking if we were interested in any beignets. As soon as I’d said no, he disappointedly walked away to grab our check. Again, I wasn’t impressed with either the food or service.

Disney Day

On our way to Mickey’s ToonTown, we stopped by a pretzel cart for a salted Mickey pretzel with cheese. It was $8. The pretzel was a bit dry and tough, but it tasted like a typical pretzel.

After exploring Mickey’s ToonTown, we made our way to Edelweiss Snacks. I wanted to try the Cheesy Garlic Pretzel Bread, which didn’t disappoint. I was only able to eat half of it since we enjoyed it with a Turkey Leg. Shiina finished the other half. As for the Turkey Leg, we didn’t finish it at all (laughs). It was actually a big one for us, but we all liked it, especially Valkyrie!

We also purchased drinks like lemonade and Coca-Cola from Edelweiss Snacks. Then, at other areas as we explored the Park such as the Red Rose Tavern.

Later we stopped by Bengal Barbeque for a Pork Belly Skewer and Jungle Julep Smoothie. Shiina rated the skewer as a 7. As for the jungle julep smoothie? It was delicious! I wanted to go back for another, but didn’t. That’s because I wanted to try something else too – the DOLE Whip Swirl (strawberry and mango). This was also a 10/10 for me. It was refreshing and tasteful.

For another sweet treat, we enjoyed chocolate chip cookies from Harbour Galley. These were made fresh, or at least they seemed to be! They were warm and continued to be delicious the day after our purchase. They were a perfect combination of soft and crispy.

While planning this trip, I’d originally wanted to try Din Tai Fung. However, I knew Shiina and Valkyrie wouldn’t care too much about their xiao long baos. Therefore, I didn’t make a reservation ahead of time. As our Disney day progressed, we were craving Asian food. We decided to order takeout from Din Tai Fung and eat outside the restaurant to enjoy the live music. Maybe if I experienced tasting the food inside the restaurant then I would understand the hype, but I didn’t. I wouldn’t crave DTF.

Overall, I think our food options were a hit or miss on this trip. Do you have a go-to item or all time favorite at Disneyland Park or Downtown Disney? Let me know, so I can give it a try next time!
