Where In Madison: Isthmus Wellness

There are plenty of benefits to acupuncture. Here are some to name a few. Acupuncture is great for chronic pain, migraine and headaches, fatigue, fertility, and targets numerous health concerns at once. Below is my first time experiencing acupuncture

Before My Visit

I’d thought about trying acupuncture for some time, but couldn’t quite commit. Then, I started hearing and seeing it everywhere. It was following me! I’d question myself, is it a sign? Should I do it? So, I did. I had an instinct to.

While there are several other reasons why I turned to acupuncture, here’s one. I was experiencing lower hip pain. I believed it to be due to my pregnancy and labor/delivery with my daughter. Although it was two years ago, I remember distinctly how my sciatica felt. It’d return every so often. With being an esthetician, I look down quite often and can be on my feet for some time. Yoga, stretching and receiving massages helped, but I wanted to try something else.

Prior to my visit, I received the necessary documents to complete. I also received email and phone text reminders of my appointment. In addition, I missed a form and was reminded to complete it before my appointment. I found this to be helpful since I wasn’t aware and don’t prefer to complete forms at appointments.

My Visit and Treatments

I received a recommendation to Isthmus Wellness from a colleague and specifically, a practitioner. As I mentioned previously, I was seeing and hearing acupuncture signs everywhere. Then, to discuss this matter with a colleague was meant to be. I needed to do it.

I booked the Initial Acupuncture Session which is 90 minutes in length. It includes a full acupuncture treatment as well as a 45 minute consult. When I arrived at the facility, I added on the Massage Chair and Sauna. These were after my appointment.

As soon as I entered the building, I was stunned. The smell alone was amazing and I loved the surrounding sound of gentle music. I was kindly greeted and checked in. I felt welcomed. The team member at the front desk offered me water and gave me a tour of the floor I was on, teaching me details of every corner.

When I was ready, I went upstairs to wait in the waiting area (upstairs for acupuncture, downstairs for massages). There, I read magazines until my appointment.

The consult was at the start of my appointment. My practitioner asked me several questions and I did the same in return. We had more of a conversation than a consultation that seemed like an interview. I felt heard and taken care of. At one point, I cried. I was thinking about the changes my body had gone through the last several years and the amount it holds inside. My practitioner was great with feedback and offerings.

Once the consultation finished, I got onto the table. This part amazed me! My practitioner was testing certain areas to receive a response. Did it hurt more or less? At some points, my practitioner instantly felt relaxation and relief. Isn’t that crazy? Then, came the needles. It felt like a quick “poof.” As soon as the needles went in, it felt as though they were popping a bubble with slight prick, then “poof,” gone. I laid on the table for the rest of the appointment where I was alone.

At the end of my appointment, I made my way downstairs where the front desk team member helped me set up the massage chair. If I had the money to spend on a massage chair, it’d be this one! It was the best massage chair I’ve tried. I selected a mode and just laid there. Yes, laid down! The chair covered my entire back side, neck/shoulders, arms, legs/feet. It was a dream.

Afterwards, I made my way to the sauna. It’s an infrared sauna, which is light that helps to improve blood circulation and promote healing. It felt good to decongest and be with myself, listening to the gentle music play.

Results

I felt relieved and loose at the end of the treatment. My practitioner suggested I remain calm throughout the day. However, some people feel a boost of energy. That was me. I was people (laughs). I felt an instant boost in energy and good emotions.

Although it won’t take only one appointment to see results, I’m happy to say I’ll be back!
