A daily self-care routine is unlike a weekly self-care routine. It’s what you do each day, such as a system, that keeps you afloat. Here’s what I do to keep myself going.
Taking Care of My Body
The very first task I do when I wake up is use the restroom. Then, I wash my hands and brush my teeth. Afterwards, I wash my face. I apply skincare in the following order: toner, essence water, serum, SPF (moisturizer and eye balm if needed). My skincare changes depending upon what’s current with my skin. Next, I comb my hair with a wide-tooth comb. I still have, but don’t use much, a regular thick hair brush. I found that it damages my hair.
Once I’ve dressed myself, I make myself tea (lemon, ginger, turmeric, black pepper). This helps me eat less, prepares my digestive system, and feel good overall. I drink lukewarm lemon water throughout the day. In the summer, I turn to a lime, mint, pink salt water mixture. Sometime during the day, I opt for home-made pressed juice. I include pineapple juice, beets, strawberries, oranges, kale, ginger, lemon, spinach, chia seeds, cucumbers… honestly, whatever I have at home! At night, I drink tea again. This time, cumin, coriander and fennel (CCF) tea.
During the day, I eat nutritious meals or snacks. I don’t eat much either, unless it’s seafood (laughs). That’s because I can have a sensitive stomach. Hence, why I like drinking ginger tea in the morning. At night, I take my vitamins.
Taking Care of My Mind
After making my morning tea, I let it sit and cool down. While it cools down, I meditate to a guided meditation video typically focusing on one topic, then transition into instrumental music, allowing my mind to wander. I stretch afterwards, and jog. When I’ve met my goal, I have fun with zumba! Then, I stretch again. This has been a game changer for me. I feel like I have much more time throughout the day, rather than feeling rushed or short on time to get tasks done. Not to mention, I’m much more patient and graceful. Thank goodness (laughs). In addition, it’s a relief getting something done right away in the morning.
While I whine down from a workout, and as I sip on my tea, I journal. I write down my goals, what I’m looking forward to, and an affirmation. I review my to-do list for the day and make changes if necessary. Typically I’d have my weeks planned out at least two weeks in advance, then adjust with updates as I go. This is a great way to remain organized and on track.
At night, I journal again. I write down what I’ve accomplished, what I’m grateful for and what/how I can improve. I summarize the day too – what happened, who I met, how I felt, what I did. If I spent money that day, I track it then I’ll journal why I spent money. A financial guru that I watch suggested this. I haven’t heard of this before and actually questioned why someone would do this. However, it’s helped me better understand myself throughout my financial journey towards financial freedom. For example, why did I spend money on food when I have food at home (laughs)?! Anyone else do this? I’m more mindful of what I’m spending money on and if I’m valuing what I’ve spent money on.
Next, I track other goals of mine like whether I did workout or meditate, and how many hours of sleep I received. Essentially, anything I’m looking to create a habit (system) of. Then, I look into the next day, reviewing what’s ahead and adjust.
Taking Care of My Soul
I’m someone who loves learning and strives to learn something new each day. To do that, I listen to an audiobook (Atomic Habits) while driving, take continuing education courses (real estate), read textbooks as I take notes (psychology), and read a book at the end of the day (Becoming). This, just like my skincare, is always changing. And it fills up my soul.
In addition to learning something new, I’m always working on a new endeavor. I have many dreams that I want to accomplish, so each day, I work towards that moment.
